Shmorévaz is delighted to welcome artist and writer Dahlia Li for a research residency.

Dahlia Li (she/her) works in the expanded field of feminist poetics as it intersects with diasporic articulations of gender and race across the mediums of film, performance, and literature. During her research residency, Dahlia Li will be working on a new installation piece entitled None. Extending her interests in feminist choreography, photography, and projection, None takes a (trans)feminist approach to the nuclear family as social and aesthetic form. In what ways might the supposed social destiny of wife, mother, and daughter be a habit awaiting sartorial re-upholstering? What geographic situations provincialize existing fantasies of feminist liberation?

As part of this research, Dahlia Li also gives a public workshop for participants interested in working with family archives. Entitled Reproducing Family Negatives, it takes place on Saturday, July 12, from 5 to 7 pm.
