Hay, perspiration, urine… perfumery counts for a whole range of so-called “animal” notes. Drowned in discourses that refuse to be dirty, these raw materials form the basis of the compositions elaborated by the cosmetics industry. Together, Marlou and Judith Kakon return to the juice and the sweat. Between smells & ceramics, attraction & repulsion, their collaboration invites for a collective impression-sharing and research on olfactory imagination.

Founded in 2016 by Briac Frocrain, Marlou is a perfume brand that focuses on scents produced by and for the body. Taking animal notes as a creative matrix, its compositions disturb olfactory identities. Marlou thus questions the social dimension of odours, but also that of perfumery. Stripped of all gilding and ornamentation, Marlou works as close as possible to the skin, with his hands and with his organs; with plants, glass, cork and a minimum of plastic.

Currently a resident at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, Judith Kakon is a visual artist from Basel (Switzerland). Her works are observers and commentators of the interrelations between globalization, society, trade and the image-systems that stem from them. Through sculpture, installation, image-making and text sources, her practice traverses contradictory networks of social laws, and questions memories that we unconsciously inhabit and are inhabited by.
