To explore the intersection between the fight against patriarchy and the struggle for Kurdish independence, Laura Lafon sets out to make a documentary in eastern Turkey about love. But Laura does not travel alone. Joined by photographer and lover Martin Gallone, she forms a duo around which questions and gazes begin to gather. This encounter sparks a dialogue and a photographic exchange. What does the fantasy of the Western couple represent? How do young Kurds imagine and live love within their own context?

Throughout this photographic road trip, self-portraits of this invented couple mingle with staged scenes created in collaboration with their hosts and friends. By probing desire, sex, and masculinities, these images reaffirm the political dimension of intimacy. At once solemn, tender, and playful, You could even die for not being a real couple is an autofiction about the social constructions of love and the cultural frameworks that shape its representation.
